Track your progress

  • Don’t just rely on looking in the mirror or scales to track your progress. You can measure your success in a number of different ways.
  • Use a fitness tracker – If you have a smartwatch or fitness tracker it’s easy to track your steps and ensure you’re getting the recommended 10,000 steps in every day. You can also monitor the amount of calories you’re burning and your heart rate during every workout.
  • Keep a fitness journal – Use a fitness journal or app to log exercises, sets, reps and weights to track your progress. For cardio, record your distances, times and paces. This way, you’ll be able to keep track of your performance milestones. Make sure to also include how you feel after working out so you can keep note of any changes in your endurance.
  • Progress photos – For those with aesthetic goals, take photos once a month to keep a visual log of your muscle tone, weight loss or posture. Make sure to wear the same outfit and keep the lighting consistent to see the most accurate results.

Hold yourself accountable (or have a hype man that does!)

It’s harder to back down on the goals you’ve set yourself if you share your goals with a friend, family member or fitness coach. Check-in with each other to ensure you’re on track, and let them know if you’re struggling to stay motivated.
