CrossFit Disruption

What is the story behind CrossFit Disruption?

We both started coaching CrossFit a while back—me about a year before May, maybe a bit more. We realised pretty early on that it was something we really enjoyed and wanted to do more of. From there, it became a long journey of trying to find the right place, figuring out how we wanted to do it, and making it all work. It’s definitely taken time, but going through that process meant we were able to work through a lot of teething problems as they came up.

What equipment did you purchase?

One thing we always had was a really clear vision of what we wanted our gym to be. Every CrossFit box has its own identity, its own way of doing things, and we knew what we wanted to deliver and create. It’s been really cool to take that initial idea—what we had in our heads and on paper—and see it turn into CrossFit Disruption, with the community and membership base we have now. It’s amazing to see it all come to life.

From day one, it was important for us to offer a class experience where we could support every movement, without limitation. If there were multiple people in class doing ring muscle-ups or rope climbs, we wanted to make sure we could accommodate that. Being able to provide the space and the equipment for people to do workouts as prescribed—especially those doing the top RX variations—was a priority. That mindset has fed into our long-term equipment purchasing plan as well.

What have you learnt along the way?

CrossFit Disruption is about community. We want people to come in and train together, and not have to deal with limitations like only having one piece of kit. We never wanted it to be a space where people in open gym got priority access to equipment while a class was running. That just didn’t fit the vibe we were going for. So from the beginning, we were intentional about the number of rings, wall ball targets, ropes—everything we’d need to deliver a full class without compromise.

Floor layout was another huge consideration. It’s not just about where things go for storage, but how the space flows during a class. We had to think about our coaches too. It’s great to have a layout that works for members, but if the coach can’t move around easily and actually deliver quality coaching, it defeats the purpose. Simple things like the placement of the entrance matter too—you don’t want people walking through the middle of a workout to get in or out.

How did Wolverson help you create your gym?

When it came to choosing the rig and equipment, we had a clear idea in our heads, but the specifics—like how trawler arms, squat racks, and wall ball targets all interact—were a bit overwhelming. Planning the rig was like planning a wedding dress—it’s the dream setup you envision, but you need help understanding how it all fits together. The support we got during that process was invaluable. When we decided to switch from two wall-mounted rigs to one wall-mounted and one freestanding, they helped us figure out what would work, what wouldn’t, and what we needed to change in our order. We even made a few last-minute changes—like asking for slightly wider beams—and they sorted it all out quickly.

Would you recommend Wolverson to others?

Absolutely yes! The kit looks great, it’s in line with our brand colours (black and white), and the whole ordering process was smooth and responsive. More importantly, it’s good quality gear that stands up to regular use, which is vital in a gym like ours. It’s been a solid relationship with the supplier, and they've always been quick and efficient whenever we’ve needed something adjusted or added.
