Gym Teq

Tom Quantrell, owner of GymTeq, shares the story behind his functional fitness gym, which evolved from the Physioteq Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Clinic. Designed to cater to a diverse range of clients, including adolescents and recovering athletes, GymTeq provides accessible and specialised training facilities. In this interview, Tom discusses his journey, the challenges he’s faced, and how Wolverson helped bring his vision to life.

What is the history of GymTeq?
GymTeq was born from the Physioteq Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Clinic. At the end of rehabilitation, patients are often keen to continue their physical progress in a gym setting. A high proportion of our clients belong to demographics with very poor gym provision in the local area—primarily adolescents and slightly more mature ladies. The GymTeq gym has been designed to serve a large and diverse range of demographics while creating accessible facilities for all.

What kind of gym is GymTeq?
GymTeq is predominantly a small-group functional fitness gym.

What kind of equipment do you have?
We have all the equipment you would find in a CrossFit and Hyrox gym, plus a few extra specialist pieces to help us cater to adolescent, para, and recovering athletic populations.

Fairly priced, flexible, always available on the phone or returning calls quickly—we never once had to chase them. All around, excellent service.

Any advice you’ve learnt on your journey?
There are plenty of things I have learnt on this journey so far, but I have minimal advice to give just yet. Get your head down and work hard. If somebody offers help, don’t be too proud—take it! Keep believing in your vision, as most other people won’t be able to see it until you place it in front of them as a finished product and they say, “Wow!”

How did Wolverson help you design your gym?
James and the sales team were fantastic. We had a good idea of how we wanted the gym to look, but the Wolverson team were always on the other end of the phone when we needed advice or their expertise. They were also extremely flexible with splitting deliveries so we could build in stages. Ask them for a quote—on a job of this size, they were able to offer really competitive pricing.

Would you recommend Wolverson to others?
Most definitely, yes. Fairly priced, flexible, always available on the phone or returning calls quickly—we never once had to chase them. All around, excellent service.
